Skoda Fabia may not be the best selling car or the biggest threat to the present competitors but it is surely the cheap among the competition with a lot of practicality. 3rd generation of Skoda Fabia was launched in 2015 and until now Fabia managed to deliver 7, 00,000 units. As the sale numbers are not much impressive but because of it, we cannot deny the real value of Fabia. The biggest reason for less number of sales could be that all the major competitors of Fabia have been shifted into new generations with more practicality, updated design and increased number of features like its related vehicles including Volkswagen polo, SEAT IBIZA which has been updated to MQB versatile platform while have more features and better specifications as well.

Engine & Power:

Skoda Fabia is available with three petrol engines as optional or standard that varies from trim to trim.

1.0 Liter MPI (60HP):

it is a three-cylinder 999 cc fuel injection petrol engine that generates 60hp@5000rpm with maximum torque of 95nm@3000rpm. The top speed with this engine is 98 Miles per hour while it takes 16.4 seconds to accelerate 0-60 miles per hour. It is paired with 5-speed manual transmission and gives a combined fuel economy of 52.3 miles per gallon.

1.0 Liter TSI (95 HP):

This is the recommended engine as it is the mid-range with decent Horsepower and fuel economy at a moderate price.

It is a three-cylinder turbo engine that generates 95hp@5000rpm with maximum torque of 160nm@1800rpm. With this engine, Skoda Fabia achieves the top speed of 115 miles per hour and accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 10.7 seconds. It is paired with 5-speed manual transmission and gives 52.3/miles per gallon fuel economy combined.

Liter TSI (110 HP):

It is again a three litre turbo engine that generates 110hp@5000rpm with maximum torque of 200nm@2000rpm. The top speed with this engine is 122 miles per hour and it takes 9.7 seconds to accelerate from 0-60miles per hour. It is paired with 6 speeds manual or optional automatic transmission and it gives the fuel economy of 51.4 miles per gallon combined.

Driving Dynamics:

Skoda Fabia could not be considered as fun to drive a car it is more like to full fill the purpose of economical daily commute within the town. As mentioned earlier 95 HP TSI is the best engine to be taken, as it not only full fill its purpose but also gives better fuel economy. 110 HP TSI engine adds more power but you may not feel the noticeable difference while the MPI 60HP should be avoided both for town or highway. The ride of Skoda Fabia is comfortable unless you travel on bad roads where bumps could not be avoided in any way. The engine remains smooth and soundless even at high speeds but wind and road noise will be the part of your journeys as much as like other small hatchback cars. Monte Carlo trim adds sport suspensions but this trim should be avoided as well to stay comfortable with standard suspensions. Skoda Fabia cannot be compared with Volkswagen polo, ford fiesta and SEAT Ibiza in terms of ride quality and driving performance. The steering wheel of Fabia is light but manoeuvring around the turn is not fun, even on the turn and around the corners, Fabia leans quite a lot that could make rear car passengers a little sick. On the highway, it gets comfortable and more settled down while cruising.

Driving Convenience Standard features:

  • Front assistant collision mitigation
  • Stop/start system
  • Exterior temperature gauge
  • Multi-function trip computer
  • Service interval indicator
  • Power-assisted steering

Exterior Design & features:

Skoda Fabia is a decent looking car but for even better road presence with the start of 2020, there has been given two new optional equipment packages one of which is colour edition that provides sporty accents such as black radiator grille and black alloy wheels, wing mirror caps and optional black roof while the Monte Carlo is already there that didn’t give much sporty driving experience but surely sporty road presence.

Interior Design & features:

Skoda Fabia may not impress you much with its interior but the way it has been laid out gives a lot of easy access that surely adds some extra comfort and convenience. The quality of the interior is not competitive with ford fiesta and Volkswagen polo which have soft-touch materials around but despite it, Skoda Fabia doesn’t feel cheap. The 6.5 inches infotainment screen is standard among the trims with android auto and Apple car play from SE to Above, Size could be small but resolution and ease of use overtake it. Visibility inside is the cabin is not bad that makes it easy for making turns within the town. There are no funky colors like competitors but if you want little color combination you can go for Monte carlo trim that adds Red stitching, leather steering wheel, some stainless steel pedal trims and a carbon fibre effect. It is important to remember that don’t go for base S trim as many important features are missing in this trim, instead go for SE tri that adds extra features such as rear parking sensors, Leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, 15 inches alloy wheels and important air conditioning while the standard features those are present in every trims includes.

Because of the increase in length and width in the new Fabia boot space has increased up to 350 liter which is the same as the current Volkswagen polo. Head and legroom on front and rear is decent enough to accommodate adults comfortably but on the rear seats two adults sit more comfortably than three because of less sitting space. Front seats are comfortable enough especially the driver’s seat that has enough lateral support to avoid rolling through corners but lumbar support is not available nor as standard or as an option. The seats and steering wheel are adjustable which helps a lot to find a comfortable driving position.
