Kia has launched its biggest and first proper three-row full-size SUV into the American Market named the Kia Telluride. Kia Telluride was first put out as a concept back in 2016, however, over the course of years, it developed and received a major front redesign and was finally put on display in the 2019 North American International Auto show. Before the launch of Telluride say if you wanted a Kia that wasn’t a minivan and it could accommodate 7-8 people, the only option you had was a Sorento crossover. However, in spite of the fact that Sorento received a major redesign, the third-row seating wasn’t spacious enough to be used on daily bases or on long drives. Therefore the Kia Telluride comes as the biggest SUV Kia has ever manufactured with the most amount of room inside. Henceforth the Kia Telluride is a ride for families who’ll like to travel in one SUV with all the passengers happy about their legroom.

Engine & Power:

Enough with the chit chat, Kia Telluride comes with a 3.8L V6 engine with 291HP and 262 lb-ft of torque from the wheels. The 8-speed automatic transmission is responsible for shifting the gears smoothly and efficiently. Despite the boxy appearance, the Kia Telluride is not made on a truck frame rather it shares the unibody platform with Hyundai Palisade. The Telluride is 8-inches longer than the Kia Sorento crossover and has a 5-inches wider wheelbase. Surprisingly enough the Kia Telluride is a few inches bigger than the Honda Pilot and new Toyota Highlander yet smaller than Ford Explorer.

Trims/Versions:

Kia Telluride is being offered in 4 trims at different price points and options. The lowest trim starts at $34,725 and the highest one goes up to $46,525. Let’s talk about the trims offered.

Kia Telluride LX:

Starting from below the LX is the lowest trim offered in Telluride. It comes with 18-inches alloy wheels, DRLS, 3.5-inches master cluster-info screen, seats made out of SOFINO leatherette, 5 speakers, 6 USB ports, and an 8-inches audio infotainment system.

Kia Telluride S:

Telluride S brings 20pinches alloy wheels with a machine finish, and a single SUNROOF in addition to all the existing options in the LX trim.

Kia Telluride EX:

EX downsizes to 19-inches alloy wheels and a single sunroof. However, the infotainment system on EX is upgraded to a 10.25-inches audio display with navigation. The seating on EX trim is also leather whereas the USB ports increase from 5 to 6 in number.

Kia Telluride SX:

SX is the most expensive and equipped trim in the Telluride lineup. It has all the upgraded features and options as compared to the lower trims. First off you get a 20-inches alloy wheel with a black finish. The next big thing on the list is DUAL SUNROOF (instead of the single on previous trims) and the leather seats are actually Nappa Leather. The infotainment system is upgraded to a 10.25-inches audio display with nav and a treat to that is 10 speakers with Harmon/Kardon Branding.

Conclusion:

Now that we are clear on the trims and packages of the Kia Telluride. Let’s dive into the driving and overall experience of the beautiful Telluride. Being a Korean brand, Kia lacked in the styling department back in the day. However, with the vehicles such as Kia Stinger and Sorento, it is evident that Kia actually has improved drastically in terms of quality, styling, and overall looks that everyone desires. Apart from that, the Kia Telluride handles well on the road and has enough power to get you through the highway gracefully. Now obviously during the testing on tracks it felt a little heavy with some understeer and boxy which you might expect with this sized vehicle however once you turn the stability control off, it gets you what you desire. In simple words, driving the Kia Telluride you seldom would feel the need to turn off stability control and spin slide off a corner (because that’s not what you do with your kids in the back of your family hauler). The interior is spacious enough with easy access to third-row and good space to accommodate 2 adults in the third row and even 3 in case of LX or EX trim. The seats have their own respective USB charging ports and the seating is comfortable as a mini-van configuration. Kia Telluride is one of the best and newest standing-out SUVs out there. With that being said Telluride is such a fine example of what Kia has accomplished over the course of years, on its way to success in the American market.
