This Cayman is among the best selling sport cars, first time this car was introduced in 2006 as hardtop that was its first generation now it is in 2nd generation that received its gentle look in 2016 by replacing 981 Cayman.
Brief history And Meaning of Cayman:
718 Cayman name given to Porsche after 718 racing car that were produced from 1957 to 1962. There were different names given by people some call it poor’s man 911 and some people call it mid level crisis car, this all was because of its price.
Meaning:
Name Cayman didn’t come from Cayman Islands but it has been taken from a reptile that belongs to alligator family. Cayman are quicker and little smaller than alligator. This reptile also pronounced Cayman but the only difference is among the spellings here In Porsche “I” has been replaced with “Y”.
Design:
As it is a sport car so does it has beautiful sport looks, its price is still much affordable than lot of other sport cars that even cross 100 thousand dollars.
Exterior:
Front of car is simple and gorgeous where nothing has been done but only the design that speaks itself. This car has fully automatic projector high intensity headlamps but there are no fog lamps available, as car is much lower to the ground that’s why need for fog lamps decrease so much.
On side it has 18 inch aluminum alloy wheels that surely contribute to enhance its external looks to great extent.
Rear side of Porsche is quite delightful, the one major difference that you will found among this and other vehicles is engine placement that is placed in the middle of car and because of which you get lot of boot space.
I forget to mention as there is no engine on front so you also have a deep boot space there. As I was mentioned earlier that this car name Cayman has been given after a alligator family member “caiman” you will surely amazed to see that this car appearance somehow looks related to it.
Interior:
Porsche Cayman 718 has a decent looking interior where you found everything settled perfectly at its place. It has partial leather seat material; it has nice flow of design among dashboard and door panels that has high quality plastic material.The one most important thing that I like is its infotainment and center console, I usually found in many other cars that there is no arrangement of buttons and sometimes you found it much difficult to understand and search the required but in Cayman 718 everything place on center console with infotainment system.
These have been made in one piece from where you control round about all systems of the car like cruise control, infotainment screen control, transmission and many others. One special thing about infotainment is the buttons for different functionalities related to it placed under the screen in hard from where you can open the required menu by clicking the button for one time and you don’t have to explore much. Some missing things in infotainment are navigation, android or apple car play but you can have apple car play that is optional.
Engine and Transmission:
Porsche Cayman 718 has 2.0 Liter turbo charged 4 cylinder engine that can produce 300 horse power with 379 Nm@1950 Rpm peak torque. Top speed of car is 171 miles per hour where it just takes 3.9 seconds to reach 0-60 miles per hour.This Cayman 718 has 7 speed pdk double cap automatic transmission with manual shift ability and also have shifters with steering wheel.
Comfort:
It is a coupe car so there are no rear seats in it, sports car usually have sporty seats so question about comfort have no meaning any more. As the price of car is much lower that’s why there are many things missing too for example it has only 2 way power seat including electric back rest adjustment, manual fore/aft and height adjustment while other cars have much more than these like ventilated and heated seats, 8 way power and lumbar support and many others options. But from my point of view it is still the best car in this price.
