Head up display displays the data on front Wind screen without requiring users to divert attention from the road. Mostly 2 dimensional head up displays are equipped within cars that assists drivers in showing basic driving information. Jaguar is working on this project to develop a 3D head up display in its vehicles which will let the passengers benefit from three dimensional movie screens. The information will be displayed into the real world. Jaguar Land Rover announced a three dimensional head up display in their upcoming cars on 20th August and we should mention here that Jaguar is not the only one to dive into this technology but Bosch also announced a three dimensional display in upcoming Mercedes vehicles while Mercedes cars are already equipped with reality navigation. Previously head up display could only display the current speed, revolutions of engine and temperature gauge projected on windshield and letting the drivers’ eye on roads reducing the chances of accidents by keeping your eyes on roads. The all-new 3 D head up display will also provide entertainment apart from assistance to drivers. The 3 dimensional display makes navigation even better from the past displaying the remaining miles left to reach your destination and the journey is made easy by just following a line on the front screen wrapping around the accurate corner a few blocks up.
Jaguar claims that this upgraded technology has latest safety alerts putting messages on road three dimensionally through windshield letting the drivers to identify important information and this three dimensional stereoscopic display will be entertaining the passengers too specially in autonomous vehicles. A 3 dimensional movie can be displayed on the windshield that tracks person’s head and eyes without wearing special 3 D glasses so your journeys are no more boring, you can enjoy your rides easily by traveling to work or on long routes. The back passengers can enjoy the movies or pictures running on the front screen without needing individual screens and the 3 D head up display is part of the Smart Cabin of Jaguar Land Rover which provides technologies to create customize space inside the car for drivers and especially the passengers. This 3 dimensional display will be useful in autonomous vehicles that will let different passengers to enjoy their customize choice of media. It will also provide enhanced safety features to the drivers with popping out warnings and instructions making your journeys even safer than before. Some of the safety features will be displayed are lane departure, hazard detection and navigation directions. Lane departure warns the drivers whenever the car began to run out/away of its lane on freeways while the hazard detection detects every encountered hazard and estimates the nature and location of it displaying on the head up display. The real time navigation is also displayed with real time traffic information and turn signals and directions to make your rides very easy and safe. All these features will be displayed on front screen and keep the driver’s attention on main road only reducing the chances of accidents. The researcher of Jaguar Land Rover head up display project “Valerian Meijering” tells us that this project is developing in partnership with Center for Advanced Photonics and Electronics and it will provide a rich experience to the customers helping to move us even closer to a safer, more entertaining, more intuitive and smarter drive.
