To make the air in Lahore cleaner and healthier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) took some important steps. This happened in a meeting where Justice Shahid Karim, a judge, shared some strong ideas.
Justice Shahid Karim told the leaders of the city and the traffic police that they need to be strict with vehicles that make the air dirty. These vehicles are breaking the rules, so they might be taken away.
The boss of the Environmental Protection Agency was also warned. They were told that if they don’t follow the court’s rules, they could get in trouble with the court.
In addition to this, leaders from different areas in Punjab were given a special job. They were told to create teams to stop smog. The leader of Lahore was told to make sure the court’s rules are followed.
Justice Shahid Karim had more ideas to fight smog. He said that government workers should start using bicycles instead of cars. This can help make the air cleaner. He also said that leaders in different areas should make sure that their workers and police officers work together to stop smog.
The judge even told the leader of Lahore to make a special team in his office. This team would be responsible for dealing with smog problems and making reports every day.
Before this, the LHC already made some strict rules to stop smog. If you wash your car at home, you can be fined 3,000 rupees. If you park your car in the wrong place, you can be fined 5,000 rupees. They also stopped any new building projects between October and March to help reduce smog.
It’s very important to know that the leaders of Punjab had already said that cars that make smog are not allowed to come into Lahore. The boss of Punjab Transport, Ahmed Javed Qazi, gave a strong warning to government officials to make sure these rules are followed. This way, they’re all working together to make the air cleaner in Lahore.
