Chery South Africa has officially launched the Chery Tiggo Cross, a refreshed and modernized version of the Tiggo 4 Pro, which it replaces in some markets. Positioned between the Tiggo 4 Pro and the Tiggo 7 Pro in Chery’s lineup, this small SUV offers enhanced styling, updated features, and competitive pricing, appealing to a broad audience.

Exterior Design

The Tiggo Cross showcases a sleek design, with a standout diamond-pattern gloss-black grille, flanked by triple-element LED headlights. Other features include metallic door garnishes, sporty red brake calipers on the Elite trim, and striking 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels depending on the variant. The rear features a unique LED light bar inspired by tiger stripes, adding to its bold aesthetic.

Interior Features and Technology

Inside, the Tiggo Cross combines luxury and practicality. The cabin features black leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a matching digital instrument cluster. Notable upgrades include bucket-style seats, ambient lighting, a wireless charging pad, and an ergonomic redesign of controls. The Elite variant further enhances comfort with heated seats and a panoramic sunroof.

Performance and Handling

Both trims are powered by a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 108 kW and 210 Nm of torque through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Improvements in suspension tuning offer a smoother ride, while throttle mapping ensures refined power delivery. However, minor transmission judders were noted during initial drives.

Safety Features

The Tiggo Cross comes equipped with a suite of safety features, including:

  • Standard across all models: ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, six airbags, hill start assist, auto hold, and tire pressure monitoring.
  • Exclusive to the Elite trim: Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a 360-degree camera.

Pricing and Warranty

The Tiggo Cross is competitively priced in South Africa:

  • Comfort Trim: R399,900
  • Elite Trim: R449,900

Both models include Chery’s comprehensive after-sales support: a 5-year/60,000 km service plan, 5-year/150,000 km warranty, a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty for the first owner, and 5 years of roadside assistance
