In an effort to address water conservation issues, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Rawalpindi has imposed a ban on washing cars at home or in commercial areas. This new directive aims to reduce the misuse of water, especially in the face of the city’s growing water scarcity.
Under this initiative, both domestic and commercial violators will face fines for using water in ways that wastefully deplete the city’s resources. The decision aligns with WASA’s broader strategy to tackle water shortages exacerbated by the overuse of groundwater.
Authorities have also been cracking down on businesses such as car wash stations, which often rely on excessive water usage. This includes sealing establishments that fail to adopt water-saving measures, such as installing water recycling plants. A fine of Rs10,000 has been set for first-time offenders at residential properties, while commercial users will be fined Rs20,000 for the initial violation. Repeat offenders face the possibility of having their water supply disconnected.
This move comes in response to a court order and is part of a larger campaign to enforce water conservation across Rawalpindi.
