MG Motors introduced its first SUV, MG Hector, in India in 2019 after a manufacturing plant was built in Gujarat in 2017. The word Hector is inspired by Hawker Hectora (a biplane in the British Royal Army) and Prince Hector of Troy. It is a midsize SUV that shares the same platform as Baojun 530. It is taller than Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tuscan, with an increased wheelbase and overall length. MG Motors announced an updated Hector for Indian markets for 2023, and the facelift Hector was revealed on 8th January 2023. The restyled MG Hector has a diamond-studded chrome grille on the front inspired by the Scotland Argyle design. The MG Hector is available in two engine options. The one is the 1.5 L turbocharged inter-cooled petrol engine and the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The 1.5L petrol engine has a displacement of 1451 cc and generates 143 PS power at 5000 RPM and a torque of 250 Nm at 1600 RPM to 3600 RPM. It offers a six-speed manual transmission and a continuously varying automatic transmission.
