AIM, a Japanese engineering company, is challenging conventional beliefs by demonstrating that lightweight design and electric power can coexist harmoniously. Recently, AIM revealed the comprehensive specifications of its groundbreaking creation, the EV Sport 01. This electric sports car concept is adorned with a captivating design crafted by SN Design Platform, led by the esteemed former Nissan design chief, Shiro Nakamura. Nakamura, renowned for his remarkable contributions to Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including the iconic Nissan GT-R, has applied his expertise to shape the aesthetics of this innovative concept.

The EV Sport 01 is a standout in terms of its impressive power output and remarkably low weight. With a mighty 483 horsepower, it tips the scales at a mere 3,141 pounds, setting it apart from its counterparts in the automotive realm. To put this achievement into perspective, the celebrated lightweight Lotus Evija weighs over 3,700 pounds. AIM has achieved this exceptional performance through its revolutionary dual-motor rear-wheel-drive system, combined with an efficient 81-kWh lithium-ion battery that powers the motors. The vehicle’s chassis boasts a central tub constructed from carbon fiber, providing the perfect blend of strength and lightness. Furthermore, aluminum sub-frames and double-wishbone suspension enhance the car’s agility, while carbon-fiber composite materials are utilized in the body construction, further contributing to weight reduction.

The compact dimensions of the EV Sport 01 play a vital role in maintaining its lightweight profile. With a length just slightly over 153 inches, comparable to that of a Mini Cooper hatchback, the car comfortably accommodates two passengers. AIM, headquartered in Nagoya, has earned a solid reputation for its expertise in powertrain technology. The company has even showcased its prowess by participating in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race, where its prototype equipped with a remarkable 5.5-liter V-10 engine secured an impressive fourth-place finish in the 2010 edition under the Oreca Matmut AIM team.

In addition to developing the EV Sport 01, AIM has dedicated efforts to the creation of its proprietary electric motors, known as the APM200 series. These motors are intended to be made available to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and potential production vehicles introduced by AIM. The EV Sport 01 will likely be the first vehicle to showcase these cutting-edge motors. Currently, AIM is conducting a feasibility study to evaluate the viability of producing a limited run of this remarkable car, further demonstrating their commitment to innovation.

Enthusiasts and industry professionals eager to experience the EV Sport 01 firsthand will have the opportunity at the upcoming 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom from July 13 to 16. AIM’s participation in this renowned event serves as a testament to their dedication to showcasing state-of-the-art electric vehicle technology to a global audience.
