Meet the Electric GT-R: Nissan’s Latest Innovation
Nissan is planning to make an electric car with special batteries called all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) by 2028. These new batteries are made by Nissan and are seen as a big advancement because they can store more energy and charge faster than the batteries we use today. Nissan wants to use these batteries in different types of cars, even fast ones like the GT-R.
The GT-R has been around since 2007, and Nissan wants to make an electric version of it. They say electric cars need to be lightweight, and current batteries are too heavy. So, they are waiting for the new batteries to make an electric GT-R. With these better batteries, they can use a smaller battery and still have good power while keeping the car’s 2+2 seating.
Nissan is also thinking about making a sportier Nismo version with a smaller battery to make the car even lighter. They say the regular electric GT-R will have a bigger battery for longer driving, while the sporty one will be more focused on performance and have a smaller battery.
The electric GT-R could have two, three, or even four electric motors, depending on how they want to design it. It will have four-wheel drive, with one motor making the front wheels go and another making the back wheels go. A concept car called the Hyper Force had 1,341 horsepower from two electric motors.
Nissan wants to keep the electric GT-R’s price reasonable and not make it super expensive like some other high-end sports cars. However, the GT-R is already getting more expensive, so we’ll have to see how they price the electric version.
It’s not clear if the current GT-R (R35) will continue until 2028, but it’s no longer available in Europe because of noise rules, and it’s not sold in Australia due to safety regulations it doesn’t meet.
Lastly, Nissan is thinking about making a cheaper electric sports car for younger people, but that’s not happening anytime soon.
