At the New York International Motor Show, Kia EV9 clinched the prestigious 2024 World Car of the Year award. This victory adds to its recent accolade as the 2024 World’s Women Car of the Year winner. The EV9 faced stiff competition from finalists Volvo EX30 and BYD Seal.

Not stopping there, the EV9 also bagged the World Electric Car of the Year title, triumphing over contenders like the BMW i5 and the EX30. Volvo celebrated success with the EX30 winning the World Urban Car of the Year award. Additionally, the Toyota Prius surprised many by clinching the World Car Design of the Year, leaving behind the likes of the Ferrari Purosangue and Ford Bronco. Meanwhile, the BMW 5 Series claimed the title of World Luxury Car of the Year.

Hyundai, Kia’s sister brand, was not left behind, as its Ioniq 5 N won the World Performance Car of the Year award. Prior to the event, Red Bull Racing’s Adrian Newey received the World Car Person of the Year award. Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, expressed pride in the recognition received by Kia EV9:

The World Car Awards are determined by an international panel of expert judges, including Auto Express editor-in-chief Steve Fowler. The EV9 becomes the 21st recipient of the World Car of the Year trophy, continuing the streak of success for South Korean brands after the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 5’s victories in 2023 and 2022. In 2020, Kia Telluride was honored as the World Car of the Year.
