The Chevrolet Colorado is a midsize pickup truck produced by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. It was first introduced in 2004 as a replacement for the Chevrolet S-10 compact pickup truck. The Colorado offers a balance between the utility of a pickup truck and the maneuverability of a smaller vehicle. Over the years, the Chevrolet Colorado has undergone several updates and redesigns to improve its features, performance, and overall appeal. After introducing their new mid-size pickup truck last year, Chevy is back with an exciting addition for 2024: the Colorado ZR2 Bison. This version is designed for serious off-road adventures and offers upgrades. It now boasts bigger 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory Mud Terrain tires and extra support from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). It offers the largest wheels in a mid-size truck and gives the ZR2 Bison a broader stance on the road. A big change for the 2024 Colorado models is that they will now have a larger 11-inch screen right in front of the driver. This screen shows important information like speed and fuel level. In the 2023 model, you could choose between a smaller 8-inch screen and a bigger 11-inch screen for this same purpose. The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado will start production in October 2023 and will be available from the start of 2024.
Trims & Variants:
The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado is a medium-sized truck that you will get with four doors and a shorter bed that’s 5 feet long. You will have five different choices in versions: WT (which stands for Work Truck), LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2.
WT: It offers Wheels that are 17 inches in size, a start button you can press to get the truck going, a steering wheel you can adjust yourself, an 8-inch digital screen that shows info in front of the driver, and a really big 11.3-inch touchscreen in the middle for all your tech needs.
LT: It offers a tailgate that locks remotely, an extra USB port at the back, a console in the middle up front, entering without a key and just pressing a button, and air vents at the back for the folks sitting there.
The Trail Boss: takes the LT model and adds extra improvements to make the Colorado even better for off-road adventures. These changes include: it offers a more powerful Turbo Plus engine, Bigger 18-inch wheels with special tires for all kinds of terrain, a 2-inch lift to give the truck more space under it, an automatic locking rear differential, which helps with traction, a two-speed transfer case that helps in tricky driving situations.
ZR1: It offers Lights that use LED technology for the headlights, taillights, and fog lights, bright red hooks in the front for towing, mirrors on the sides that can be heated and adjusted with power controls, an electric outlet with 120 volts in the back seats and the bed, and Seats covered in synthetic leather that looks and feels good.
ZR2: It offers The most powerful Turbo High-Output engine, Big 17-inch wheels with tires meant for muddy terrain, special Multimatic DSSV dampers for better control, an improved suspension that lifts the truck by 3 inches, locking differentials in the front and back that you can choose to use, sturdy rock rails to protect the sides when you’re on rough paths.
Engine & Power:
In the Latest Chevy Colorado, there’s a change in the engine options. The middle-level “Turbo Plus” choice will no longer be available. Instead, you can pick between the basic work truck engine and the more powerful “Turbo High-Output” engine. It means the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder won’t come with the option that had 310 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque anymore. Now, you can choose the “Turbo” version, which has 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or the “Turbo Max” version, which offers a robust 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Performance & Drive:
The new Colorado uses a special setup where the front part is separate from the back, and the back has strong leaf springs under a solid axle. But for the super tough ZR2 version, they’ve put big Multimatic DSSV dampers in the front and the outside of the frame in the back. The standard WT and LT trucks have an open rear part, while the Trail Boss and Z71 trucks have a special limited slip. The ZR2 is decent for off-road and has power-locking in both the front and back. The most rugged off-road Colorado is the ZR2 Bison. It rolls on big 35-inch tires, the biggest ones you can get for this truck size. With a high ground clearance of 12.2 inches, the Bison can handle rocks better and go over them more easily. It even uses hydraulic bump stops in the front and back to make landing softer when jumping. Out of all the smaller trucks, the Colorado can tow the most. It’s good at pulling things and can handle up to 7700 pounds. The starting engine with 237 horsepower in the WT and LT models can pull about 3,500 pounds. But if you go for the Colorado Z71 or the Trail Boss, they can tow up to 7700 pounds. The Colorado does its best when it comes to how much fuel it uses. If you’re driving the kind that only powers the back wheels, you’ll get around 20 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. If you have a Colorado with all-wheel drive, you can expect about 19 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. But if you have the ZR2 version you will get off-road adventures, the numbers drop a bit. It goes down to around 17 miles per gallon in the city and 19 miles per gallon on the highway. When people test how far the truck goes on the highway at 75 miles per hour.
Exterior Design & Features:
The 3rd generation Chevrolet Colorado undergoes a significant exterior transformation, featuring a redesigned body that marks the introduction of a new generation. It is available in a crew cab configuration with a 5-foot 2-inch long bed, catering to both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive preferences. Notably, the V-6 and Duramax diesel powertrains from the previous generation have been discontinued, signaling a shift in engine options for this model year.
The 2024 Chevy Colorado has some features that make it stand out. It has special tires and wheels that can be locked in place, a strong Boron steel skid plate to protect the bottom, tough steel bumpers, and special badges. The basic design of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado is unchanged.
Interior Design & Features:
The latest Colorado got much better on the inside. It comes only as a truck with four doors. Inside, there’s a new center console, and the gear shifter is closer to the person sitting next to the driver. The spots for holding drinks are right in front of the middle console now, not on the other side of the gear lever. There are new things like the screen showing important information, the screen for controlling stuff, and the steering wheel. The new look is all done. The space above your head when sitting is a bit smaller, compared to the old Colorado, but the space for your legs and shoulders is mostly the same. You’ll find an 11.3-inch screen for controlling things like music and maps in all variants of Colorado. The Colorado also has a place to charge your phone wirelessly, but if your gadgets need it, you will get regular USB ports.
Safety & Features:
The Previous Generation 2022-2023 Model of Chevy Colorado received poor results in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) moderate overlap front test, revealing a higher risk of injury for rear-seated passengers compared to those in the front. Among five small crew cab pickups tested, none achieved a Good overall rating, with the 2022-2023 Nissan Frontier being the only model to earn an Acceptable rating. The 2022-2023 Ford Ranger received a Marginal rating, while the 2022 Chevy Colorado, 2022-2023 Jeep Gladiator, and 2022-2023 Toyota Tacoma all earned Poor ratings. While the 2022 Chevy Colorado demonstrated Good ratings in most areas, rear passenger head and neck injury, chest injury, and restraints and kinematics earned Marginal ratings. The IIHS emphasized the need for improved rear seat belt restraints to reduce the risk of injuries in the back seat. The IIHS updated the test due to concerns about rear-seated passengers’ safety, and despite the findings, recommends children remain in the back seat to avoid airbag-related injuries.
