The French automobile company Peugeot unveiled their supermini car Peugeot 208 in 2012 at Geneva Motor Show. Currently, the 2nd generation is present that introduced in 2019. It is built on the PSA CMP platform and offers you a variety of engine options. It is also available in an electric version that shares a common chassis with the traditional diesel or petrol-powered Peugeot 208. Peugeot 208 comes among one of the most popular cars in some countries like Algeria, Malaysia, Iran, and all across Europe. It comes with a unique front fascia and an overall eye-catching appearance, while the list of loaded technical features makes it a demanding car. Now talking about the arrival of Peugeot 208 in Pakistan, then we must mention here that Peugeot had signed an MoU and expression of interest EoI with Lucky Motors to assemble and distribute Peugeot vehicles in Pakistan. It is not clear which of the company vehicles will enter the Pakistani markets, and Peugeot 208 can be among them. However, Peugeot 208 is slightly expensive in International markets, so its price in Pakistan will also be higher.
Trims & Variants:
It is available in five variants that are as follows: Active premium, Allure, Allure Premium, GT, and GT premium. The Active Premium trim features a manual airconditioner, all standard safety features, a 7kW Onboard charger, light grey roof lining, USB sockets at the front and rear. The Allure trim features an automatic air conditioner, rear full-3D Peugeot signature Claw effect light, and similar features. The Allure Premium trim provides you with Visio Park 1 feature that offers you a 180-degree grid view from the rear, making reverse easy. Engine & Power:
The Peugeot 208 offers you four engine choices that are available in all trim levels. The engine options are as follows:
- 1.2 L Pure Tech 75 petrol engine generates power of 75 hp and offers a five-speed manual transmission.
- 1.2 L Pure Tech 100 petrol engine produces power of 99 hp and offers a six-speed manual transmission.
- 1.2 L Pure Tech 130 petrol engine generates maximum output of 129 hp and offers eight-speed automatic transmission.
- 1.5 L Pure Tech 100 diesel engine produces a power of 101 hp and offers you an eight-speed automatic transmission
Performance & Drive:
All the engines of Peugeot 208 give a remarkable driving experience, but the 1.2 L Pure Tech 75 is one of the best because it is much cheaper than other engines and gives you a smooth drive. The diesel engine is also smooth and frugal. You can cruise at speeds without the engine noise disturbing your comfort, and the only noise is the wind noise in the cabin. Both the manual and automatic transmissions run the car smoothly with precise gear changes so you can enjoy a comfortable ride. The ride is smooth, especially on smoother roads, because of its torsion beam suspension at rear axles and passive suspensions. The steering wheel is light-weighted, and it’s good in handling the car by freely moving the steering wheel. The acceleration of Peugeot 208 is also remarkable; with a manual transmission, the car can accelerate 0 to 62 miles per hour in 14.9 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 106 miles per hour while the diesel engine accelerates 0 to sixty-two miles per hour in 10.2 seconds and 1.2 L Pure Tech 130 petrol engine takes a minimum time of 8.7 seconds to reach 0 to sixty-two miles per hour. The fuel consumption of Peugeot 208 is economical as the base trim consumes 6.3 liters to 6.7 liters to travel a distance of 100 kilometers, and the diesel engine is considered to be the most economical of all as it consumes only 4.4 liters to 5 liters of diesel to travel a distance of 100 kilometers.
Exterior design and features:
Peugeot 208 does not fail to impress every eye with its striking exterior design. There is a prominent trapezoid grille on the front with chrome faucets and glossy black edge trim that holds the Peugeot logo on it. The LED headlights come with a three-claw design and are fitted with Eco LED or full LED technology as in GT trim. The GT badging details are also given in GT trim, making it unique from other versions. There are body-colored door handles with glossy black rear connecting strips and badges on the front and back. The base trims come with sixteen-inches diamond-cut alloy wheels, while the higher-end trims feature seventeen inches Bronx alloy wheels.
Interior design and features:
The convenience and comfort are provided in all the trims of Peugeot 208. The higher-end models feature Alcantara and Isabella fabric seats with blue lining details, and front seats are given with heating technology to make your journey more relaxing and comfortable. The cabin offers ambient lighting, so it creates an enjoyable and soothing atmosphere in the cabin. The i-Cockpit of Peugeot brings driving into a new era with the following features:
- A compact multi-functional steering wheel.
- A 7-inches touch screen in base trims and a 10-inches touch screen in GT trim provides you with infotainment.
- An electric impulse automatic gearbox that is trimmed with leather and operates smoothly.
You will be given a smartphone charging plate in the cabin that lets you can charge your smartphones anywhere, anytime. The Mirror Screen, as mentioned above, provides you navigation, media functionality through Android Auto and Apple Car play interface. Other than this, a Cielo panoramic glass roof adds natural light and fresh air to the cabin. The storage capacity of the Peugeot 208 trunk is not bad either and is sufficient enough to carry your luggage bags for a weekend trip.
