As we know, there is a huge trend of crossover SUVs in Pakistan these days, and every automobile company is introducing its SUVs in the market. The SUVs by Kia, MG, Changan, Hyundai, and Proton have been a hit so how can Honda Atlas be left behind in the competition of SUVs? This time Atlas Honda is bringing one of their best crossovers back into the market. The Honda HRV has been launched again in Pakistan, seven years after it was discontinued due to poor sales. This subcompact crossover was launched in 1998 and three generations of it have been offered till now. The third-generation Honda HRV is the latest model available and it is available in Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, China, and European markets while it is also launched in Pakistan now. The third generation of the Honda HRV is sold as the second generation of the Honda Vezel in Japan. The Honda HRV available in Pakistan is the global RV version of the updated HRV. It is restyled compared to its previous model and inspired by a couple where there is a sloping hatch. The front end does not have the wing-face Honda logo, and the inside of the Honda HRV is much like the 11th-generation Honda Civic. The Honda HRV available in Pakistan has a gasoline engine, and an electric or hybrid version is not offered here. The bookings for the 2023 Honda HRV have been started in Pakistan. It is locally assembled here and available in two variants only. If we talk about the difference between both variants, the base variant does not have fog lights, navigation, a rear camera, a wireless charging device, and USB ports at the rear. The Honda HRV’s price is kept lower than expected, but the locally assembled HRV lacks some latest features offered in the international versions.
Trims & Variants:Â
The Honda HRV is available in the following two variants in Pakistan:
Honda HRV VTI: the base variant offers black-cut 17-inch alloy wheels, a 9-inch simple infotainment screen with no navigation, an auto air con air-conditioning system, one USB port, fabric-covered seats, and a manual rear view mirror.
The Honda HRV VTI-S offers seventeen-inch alloy wheels with grey paint, LED fog lamps, an LED front turn signal, a body-colored grille, a navigation system, leather-covered seats, dual auto air con air-conditioning system, rearview camera, as well as additional safety features. The powertrain and transmission are similar in both variants.
Engine, Power & Transmission:
The Honda HRV gets power from a 1.5-liter, 1498cc, water-cooled, DOHC, inline-four engine that generates 119 hp power at 6600 RPM and 145 Nm torque at 4300 RPM. It offers continuously varying automatic transmissions. It has a Macpherson suspension with a stabilizer at the front, and an axle type at the rear, with four-wheel disc brakes, an anti-lock braking system, and an electric parking brake. The hybrid powertrain is not available in Pakistan yet.
Performance & Drive:
The Honda HRV is a pretty good car in its performance, and the locally assembled model is also expected to deliver equally good performance as the international variants. The 1.5-liter engine delivers sufficient power to efficiently drive the front wheels and has a smooth throttle response. The continuously varying automatic transmission has the correct gear ratio and shifts smoothly under hard acceleration. The ride quality of the 2023 Honda HRV is improved, as compared to the previous model. The Honda HRV is fun to drive as it remains composed and stable over breakers, and its responsive steering gives confidence in driving. The suspension system is stiff and delivers a smooth ride, ensuring maximum comfort when moving over uneven roads and bumps. The braking system is responsive and offers strong stopping power. The longer wheelbase and new chassis, along with responsive steering control make the ride composed and handling easier. The body control is excellent and the car turns smoothly without leaning. The Honda HRV offers average fuel economy and is expected to give 25 kilometers per liter in the city and 28 kilometers per liter on the highways. One of the drawbacks of the Honda HRV is its engine noise which increases on highways and might disturb the comfort of the passengers. It drives well in traffic, and the throttle changes smoothly. The 1.5-liter petrol HRV international variant claims to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 10.6 seconds, so we hope the local HRV to have similar acceleration.
Exterior Design & Features:
The Honda HRV is restyled completely with a chrome front grille and aggressive front bumpers, along with large air inlets. The top variant has LED auto headlights, fog lights, and LED turn signals. The door mirror now comes with LED turn signals. The rear has red and clear LED taillights that look astonishing, and the rear reflector enhances the car’s beauty. There is a shark fin antenna and rear wiper, and tailgate spoiler. The top variant has grey paint and seventeen-inch alloy wheels that make the car look more aggressive and bolder. It is available in taffeta white, crystal black pearl, lunar silver metallic, red pearl, grey metallic, and two-tone red pearl exterior color options.
Interior Design & Features:
The Honda HRV has an elegant interior with a minimalistic layout. The top variant has three color options for the cabin that are red, grey, and black. The base variant comes with fabric-covered seats, while the top variant has leather upholstery that adds a premium feel to the cabin. There are two analog dials in the instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch MID display. There is a nine-inch display screen mounted on the dashboard that comes with a navigation system in the top variant. The build quality is good, and the panoramic sunroof adds more light and fresh air to the cabin. There is enough passenger room in the cabin with ample headroom and legroom, and the boot space is large, which increases when folding the rear seats.
Safety & Features:
The Honda HRV offers the following safety features:
- Hill descent control.
- Hill-start Assist.
- Agile handling assist.
- Front and rear passenger seat belt alarms.
- Electric parking brakes.
- Auto brake hold.
- Airbags.
- Anti-Lock Braking system.
Pros & Cons:
Pros:
The Honda HRV has updated features that make it more appealing to competitors. It offers a nine-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, navigation, and updated safety features. It comes with a spacious cabin and accommodates five passengers comfortably. The Honda HRV looks sporty and attracts customers’ eyes.Â
Cons:
The Honda HRV is only available in a gasoline powertrain, and the hybrid powertrain is not available yet. It does not offer basic features like cruise control, and parking sensors available in its competitors. The Honda HRV has an average fuel economy.
